Environment Minister Priska Hinz praises the city of Offenbach’s plans to reduce nitrogen oxide.
According to the Hessian Ministry of the Environment, the nitrogen oxide limit values in Offenbach can probably be met. Environment Minister Priska Hinz (Greens) said on Monday that the city had apparently taken the right measures to avert driving bans.
However, two out of four measuring points in Offenbach still indicate that the limit value has been exceeded. For this reason, work continues on an air quality plan, the third update of which Hinz now presented. “A comprehensive, safe cycle path network and an expansion of public transport should create incentives to leave the car at times,” explains the minister. “If these offers work, we can comply with the limit values for nitrogen oxides and do health protection justice.”
To ensure that the bus fleet also only emits little nitrogen oxide, half of the vehicles are to be converted to electric buses. Speed limits on some sections of the road and optimized traffic light switches are also intended to improve the flow of traffic and thus reduce emissions.
The draft of the updated clean air plan will be displayed for inspection until July 31 at the Rathaus, Berliner Straße 100. It is also available at Umwelt.hessen.de. aph
