Odd Political Fund Transactions in Indonesia Linked to 2024 Elections – Calls for Investigation

Jakarta

The KPU has received a letter from the Financial and Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) regarding the findings odd transaction hundreds of billions of rupiah which is thought to be used to raise votes in the 2024 elections. Candidate number 3 who is also Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md emphasized that Bawaslu must investigate these findings.

“Yes, there are two things, first, Bawaslu must investigate this and reveal it to the public. Second, if it is illicit money, it is usually money laundering, so that they are arrested, so that they can check accounts suspected of receiving illegal political funds,” said Mahfud in Padang, West Sumatra ( West Sumatra), Sunday (17/12/2023).

Not only that, Mahfud also asked the KPK not to remain silent regarding these findings. He encouraged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to immediately investigate these odd findings.

“So don’t be silent, the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) and Bawaslu were summoned, so I encourage them to be investigated,” he said.

The head of PPATK, Ivan Yustiavandana, previously said that there were findings of odd transactions during the campaign. The transaction is worth trillions of rupiah.

“We are still waiting, we are talking about trillions, we are talking about very large numbers, we are talking about thousands of names, we are talking about all the political parties we are looking at. It is indeed the wish of Commission III to want PPATK to photograph everything and we are doing this. In accordance with our authority,” said Ivan after attending the ‘PPATK Dissemination’ event, Pullman Central Park Hotel, West Jakarta, Thursday (14/12).

According to him, reports regarding the 2024 election funds are becoming increasingly massive to PPATK. He said that his party had received reports of strange transactions since January 2023.

“We have seen, everything has been informed to the KPU and Bawaslu. The data is already with them,” he said.

In this case, PPATK also highlighted the special campaign fund account (RKDK) which usually tends not to fluctuate. In fact, said Ivan, the campaign period has started and there should be income in the RKDK.

“Yes, we have said it several times, as far as our experience is concerned with this election, the RKDK, a special campaign fund account, is supposed to finance political campaign activities. It tends to be flat, transactions tend not to move. The ones that are moving are the other parties. ,” said Ivan.

Hundreds of Billions of Transactions to Raise Funds

The contents of the PPATK letter sent to the KPU were also revealed. In the letter sent by PPATK, it was revealed that transactions in the accounts of political party treasurers amounted to hundreds of billions of rupiah.

“In the PPATK letter to the KPU, PPTAK explained that in the accounts of political party treasurers in the period April-October 2023 there were money transactions, both incoming and outgoing, in the amount of hundreds of billions of rupiah,” said Head of the Indonesian KPU Technical Division Idham Holik, Saturday (16/12 ).

The transaction is said to have the potential to be used to raise votes. This of course, said Idham, damages democracy.

“These financial transactions have the potential to be used to raise votes which will damage Indonesian democracy,” he added.
