“Ceilings were collapsing”

Pamiers hospital had benefited from it modernization works in the 70s, with the creation of a operating room and two surgical departments, single rooms, etc. The plant had about 250 beds.

In 2001 the municipality bought the hospital. offices of the community of municipalities, as well as some associations, settle in one of the two wings. But the buildings are deteriorating and forcing the municipality to pay every year 80,000 euros, “just to secure the premises”, confides Frédérique Thiennot. “Ceilings were collapsing. »

A future residence for the elderly, with swimming pool

The project led by Eiffage is to rehabilitate the premises to develop a residence for the elderly. “Expect approx 110 apartments, with a dining room, a swimming pool, spaces for conviviality”, quotes the elected local in bulk. “There will also be a night watchman. The U-shaped building will be retained, as well as the grand staircase outside with a statue.

Frédérique Thiennot defends tooth and nail this residence for the elderly, halfway between the house and the Ehpad, which could see the light of day by 2025-2026:

The monthly rental cost will be approx 1,000 euros for a T1 T2 and T3 will also be offered. “The price is approximately 300 euros lower than the national average for this type of residence. Each apartment will have a kitchen. Residents can also have lunch at the restaurant or have a meal delivered to the apartment” .

A virtuous project?

This rehabilitation project is “extremely virtuous”, “it satisfies all the requirements of sustainable development. By redeveloping this wasteland, “we are not consuming new natural spaces.” Furthermore, the future residence is part of “a neighborhood that benefits from it revegetation. » Frédérique Thiennot cites the recent discovery of a channel, formerly under a car park, « to create a blue stream, edged in green. Residents will be able to reach the city center very easily, without using the car. »

The hospital is located near the city center, between two priority districts from the city. “This project promotes diversity “, insists Frédérique Thiennot, mayor of Pamiers since 2020. According to the elected one, no decision had been made before regarding the future of the site. “I didn’t want to see my city transform in ruins. »
