Observe New York above the void, the Rockefeller Center attraction inspired by a photo from the 1930s (video) – L’Avenir

Being able to look at the New York skyline and Central Park, as far as the eye can see, the Rockefeller Center makes it possible with its new tourist offer. Since December 1st, this experience has been open to the public on the Top Of The Rock observation deck. Visitors are invited to sit on a large beam which rotates 180 degrees, so that they can observe the city, 260 meters from the void.

This initiative was inspired by a photograph, “Lunch atop a Skyscraper” published in the New York Herald Tribune in 1932. At the time, the skyscraper was under construction and we can see 11 workers having a leisurely lunch with their legs in the void. This represents the resilience of American workers, as this period was marked by the Great Depression. It was difficult to find work.

For 25 euros access, coupled with the price of entry into the skyscraper, tourists can have their photo taken above the void, while being well secured by an individual belt.
