Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090: Powerful Features, Unique Design, and Future Possibilities

The current top model of the Lovelace generation, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090, is a card with a default 450W TDP, but it can also be switched to 600W mode. There was also a solution planned that, according to some indications, was supposed to use a 600W TDP in the default configuration and support an increase to 800W. The entire cooler was then designed to dissipate up to 900 watts of heat.

Now more pictures of this product or part of it have appeared. Compared to the GeForce RTX 4090, the four-slot card differs not only in its higher construction, but also in the concept with a PCB rotated 90°, i.e. placed parallel to the motherboard, so that nothing obstructs the passage of air through the card.

It can be assumed that Nvidia started developing this solution during the time of cryptomania, when card prices were inflated and users were willing to pay many times higher prices for ten to twenty percent extra performance. That is already in the past. The fact that AMD did not reach the originally set goal with the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and the card ended up several tens of percent slower due to certain problems also certainly contributed to the change of strategy at Nvidia.

It is not very likely that Nvidia could release the GeForce RTX 4090 Ti / Titan. It will be safe to say if it doesn’t show up by Christmas. Releasing such a solution next year would make no sense – GeForce RTX 5000 will already be expected, and customers’ willingness to pay premium prices for ~10-15% extra performance will be greatly limited. However, it is not excluded that a similarly designed solution will appear in Nvidia’s portfolio in some of the future generations.
