The presidential representative of the College of Nurses of Caracas, Ana Rosario Contreras, denounced this Wednesday at a press conference, that the health union is in the worst stage since the arrival of the coronavirus in the country, given that they face it without guarantees enough to deal with such a serious situation.

“As health sector workers we want to denounce this situation, health is an issue that cannot be stopped. There must be a political will, according to information, 80% of the population could be infected, even if they are asymptomatic, ”he said.

“We need their support, today not only do we have no way to feed our families. Now we are at risk. For managers who are in hospitals, it is not time to store the equipment, it is time to attend to this situation, “he added.

The union confirms that health personnel are at high risk.

“Currently they do not carry out the PCR test, they do not provide us with masks, they do not give us the supplies and equipment necessary to face the pandemic. There are hospitals where they force the personnel to share the gowns and to use the disposable masks for long hours, ”she assured.

“Exercising the nursing profession in Venezuela is suicide. More than 60% of the hospitals in Venezuela do not have water, that is unacceptable, under these circumstances we carry out our activities, we are soldiers against an invisible enemy without the necessary equipment, “he said.

Likewise, the union leader deeply regretted that medical personnel continue to die due to these types of circumstances, unofficially citing that at least seven nurses have died.

“Seven nurses have passed away, the health union has lost 38 health professionals. We are the first country in Latin America with these figures ”, he counted.

For this reason, Contreras demanded that the Maduro regime comply with the guidelines established by the World Health Organization (WHO), complying with the corresponding protocols and training the country’s hospitals with medical supplies and equipment.

“We need the population, civil society and the WHO to support us, today not only do we have no way to feed our families. Now we are at risk. For managers who are in hospitals, it is not time to store the equipment, it is time to attend to this situation, ”he said.

Regarding the management of the deceased, he stated that the vast majority of the country’s morgues are not operating. “In Venezuela, a corpse can last up to more than 48 hours in a hospital.”

“Today we should not be concerned about these issues, unfortunately we are dealing with circumstances that should be resolved by a nefarious government,” said Ana Contreras.
