Number of infections is decreasing: RIVM registers 45,000 new infections

The number of new corona cases is much lower today than the days before. The RIVM registered 45,908 new infections in the past 24 hours. That number was last this low at the beginning of this month. After the latest relaxation of the corona rules, which coincided with Carnival, the number of new cases had risen rapidly.

Last week, the number of new infections fluctuated between 60,000 and 74,000 daily. On average, this amounted to 63,221 positive tests per day. Looking at today’s numbers, the average is now down for the third day in a row.

However, the number of hospital admissions increased compared to yesterday. The hospitals added 146 covid patients, bringing the total number of admissions to 1920 – the highest number in weeks. Of these, 151 patients are in intensive care.

In addition, 104 deaths from corona were recorded last week, which amounts to an average of almost fifteen a day. That is the highest level since January 11. Incidentally, it does not have to be the case that all patients actually died last week. Deaths are sometimes registered with a delay.

Latest measures

As of February 25, most of the corona measures were as good as released. Tomorrow the cabinet wants to decide to also delete the last rules, such as wearing a mouth cap on public transport. The basic advice will probably remain in effect.
