In 2020, the number of daily active users of the Epic Games Store increased 192 percent to 31.3 million. Customers spent more than $ 700 million in the game store. That makes Epic Games known.
During the peak of use of the game platform, 13 million players were active and that peak was 7 million in 2019. Steam recently reached the milestone of 25 million simultaneously active players. In addition to the 192 percent growth in the daily number of active users, the number of monthly active users increased from 32 million in 2019 to 56 million in 2020. That’s lower than last June, when Epic reported 61 million have monthly active users. In total, the Epic Games Store has more than 160 million users. Epic Games reports the growth figures in one update over 2020.
It also states that of the $ 700 million customers spent, 35 percent was spent on third-party games, or $ 265 million. Epic’s in-store range increased from 190 games in 2019 to 471 in 2020.
The company’s strategy to gain market share was to buy out exclusivity, offer higher remittances to developers, and provide free games. It did the latter with 103 games, which were claimed 749 million times. Epic promises to make more titles available in 2021 and to provide developers with tools to self-publish games on the Epic Games Store platform.
