Number of corona patients in hospitals rises to 944, more positive corona tests | Inland

The last time there were more than 900 corona patients in hospitals was at the beginning of June. With regard to the number of new admissions to the nursing wards, we are also around the spring level. In the past 24 hours, 154 new corona patients were admitted to a nursing ward, the highest number since May 19.

The wards are currently treating 741 people with Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Twenty-four hours ago, there were 82 fewer. Because people also left the nursing ward, the occupancy increased less quickly than the number of new admissions.

203 corona patients are currently being cared for in intensive care units. That’s 3 more than 24 hours ago. 14 people were newly admitted to the ICUs, but because people also died or were moved to a nursing ward, the occupancy increased less rapidly.

Positive tests

The number of positive corona tests continues to rise. Between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning, 7,717 new cases were identified. That is the highest number since July 19.

In the past seven days, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) registered 43,910 positive tests. That is 56 percent more than in the previous week.

On average, 6,272 positive tests per day have been reported in the past week. For the first time since July 25, more than three months ago, that average exceeds 6000. The average is rising for the 28th day in a row.

In the past day, RIVM received 15 reports that a corona patient had died as a result of the infection. That’s pretty much the same as Tuesday and Wednesday. For the first time since the end of May, more than 10 deaths have been reported three days in a row.

At the end of February last year, someone in the Netherlands tested positive for the corona virus for the first time. Thursday is day 610 of the outbreak. More than 2.1 million positive tests have now been registered. Of 18,371 people it is certain that they have died from the virus. The actual numbers are higher.
