Number of bankruptcies remained unchanged in the first half of 2020 NOW

The number of companies declared bankrupt in the first half of this year remained the same compared to the first six months of last year. This is reported by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) Monday.

Over sixteen hundred companies went bankrupt in the first six months. Fewer bankruptcies were reported in June, according to Statistics Netherlands, than in May. The past month involved 264 companies and institutions.

The number of bankruptcies varies greatly per month. “Decreases and rises follow each other quickly,” says Statistics Netherlands. In May 2013 there was a peak. “After that there is a downward trend.”

In September 2018, with 224 units, the number of companies that went bankrupt was at the lowest level. “Since then, the trend has been fairly flat,” said the statistics bureau.
