Russians cynically killed captured Ukrainian soldiers in a colony in the occupied Yelenovka. Almost immediately, the propagandists began shifting the blame to Ukraine, using the technique of providing “information alibis.”

Thus, the first reports that the Ukrainian side allegedly plans to shell the POW camp in Yelenovka, where the defenders from Azovstal are located, appeared on Russian media resources as early as June 5, 2022.
After the actual commission of the crime, the aggressor country scaled up the disinformation campaign, trying to shift the responsibility for all war crimes committed by the Kremlin to Ukraine, while declaring that “Zelensky personally, his criminal regime and Washington bear all responsibility for the bloody massacre against Ukrainians.”

Shelling colonies in Elenovke
On the morning of July 29, pro-Russian militants reported the death of 40 Ukrainian soldiers as a result of a strike on the Yelenovskaya colony. It was later reported that the death toll had risen to 50.

The GUR reported that the explosions took place on the territory of the industrial zone in a new building, which was supposed to be specially equipped for holding prisoners taken out of Azovstal.
