NPO is also overhauling radio | Inland

Major renovations are planned for NPO Radio 1, NPO Radio 2, NPO 3FM and youth channel FunX. At Radio 1, the afternoon and evening programming has to be overhauled, at 3FM about 1.5 million is being cut and more is being invested in FunX.

Together with the broadcasters, the NPO wants to investigate the possibility of deploying fewer presenters on Radio 1. The NPO does not respond to the plans. “The status of a concept is, as the word implies: a concept. We are not making any statements about internal processes in the field of audio at the moment,” said a spokesperson.

Radio 1 has been the news and sports channel for many years, with room for entertainment in between. That’s going to change. “NPO Radio 1 wants to strengthen journalism with a distinctive offer that has an impact,” according to the plan, and, “you hear the best journalists at NPO Radio 1.”

That means the end for drama productions. “We want to clearly separate fiction from reality.”

The channel wants to invest more in investigative journalism. Earlier this month, the public broadcaster received a lot of criticism because the TV plans would pay less attention to journalism, including a line through ‘Andere Tijden’. That idea was reversed.

The programming between six o’clock in the morning and half past one in the afternoon remains intact in the concept plan. Changes are planned after that time.

Programs that are a bit lighter in tone or offer more entertainment are in danger of dying, such as the BNNVARA Sport Combinatie (BVSC), which discusses light sports news. A spokesperson for the broadcaster recognizes the plans and indicates that he is still in talks with the NPO.

From two to four, which now houses ‘Blok&Toine’, the program by Mischa Blok and Toine van Peperstraten, the intention is to make room for ‘accessible and creative formats’ and ‘a new program that addresses socially relevant topics in an accessible way. offers plenty of room for interaction with the listener.” AVROTROS, the broadcaster behind ‘Blok&Toine’, indicates that they are in discussion with the NPO and does not want to comment further.

The NPO is trying to rejuvenate, but does that still make sense if young people no longer watch television or listen to the radio at all? Four young Telegraaf journalists discuss this in the podcast “Generation T.”:
