On Monday there was a lot of wind, rain and snow in Spain as a result of storm Gérard. According to the Spanish newspaper The country the storm will be at its worst on Tuesday and Wednesday – at the same time as Fien, another storm, is on its way.

State meteorologist Rubén del Campo explains to the newspaper that Fien will lead to intense winds from the north and northwest of the country. The whole of Spain, apart from the Canary Islands and Extremadura, is therefore on alert.

On Monday, the city of Huesca received over 40 centimeters of snow, and the waves in the port city of La Coruña were up to nine meters high.

Today, there will be copious amounts of rain in several of the country’s northern regions, especially Cantabria and Galicia. Cities such as Vitoria, Pamplona, ​​Burgos, Ávila and Segovia are expecting more than 30 centimeters of snow.

In addition to rain and snow, the strong and stormy wind will continue to wreak havoc tonight. According to the Spanish newspaper, temperatures will start to drop later in the afternoon today.

– Wednesday will be a cold day with maximum temperatures of minus five degrees in the northern half of the country, and ten degrees in the southern half, the Spanish meteorologist tells the newspaper and points out that the storm will intensify.

20-35 centimeters in 24 hours

State meteorologist at the Meteorological Institute, Bina Stabell, says that there are different amounts of snow around Spain.

– Spain has issued danger warnings for different levels of danger, both for wind and snow. It doesn’t look like there is that much snow in the country, but some places that are higher up can get around 20-35 centimeters in 24 hours, says Stabell to Dagbladet.

According to the state meteorologist, the forecasts indicate that a new low pressure may come towards Spain during Thursday, which may also bring some rainfall.
