ZThe water service competitions are taking place for the 65th time this year. From Thursday, August 24th to Saturday, August 26th, around 1,000 Zille crews will compete in a wide variety of disciplines.

After 1979 and 1998, Klosterneuburg is the venue for the state water service competition for the fire brigades for the third time. The applicants have to prove themselves in the “knots” and “lifebuoy throwing” parts of the exam. Once these two challenges have been mastered, barge driving is on the agenda. The wooden barge has to be poled a few hundred meters upstream. After the turn and the simulated rescue of a person, it’s time to row as hard as you can. Strong upper arms and a good level of fitness, but also skill in handling a wooden barge, are required.

The annual increase in the number of female participants who register shows that Zille driving is no longer just the domain of men. More and more firefighters dare to step into the wooden barge and show their skills in their own class on the water.

From Thursday to Saturday there is a festival in the fire brigade disaster camp. The event takes place in any weather.

traffic disruptions

Danger! During the event, traffic will be diverted in the Donaustraße area in the industrial area of Klosterneuburg. This affects motorized traffic on the one hand, but also the Danube Cycle Path.
