Now it’s just a military operation, this is what might happen if Putin officially declares war on Ukraine

MOSCOW, KOMPAS.com – President Russia Vladimir Putin may officially declare war on Ukraine on May 9, according to media reports and some Western officials.

However, what is the meaning of an official declaration of war and what does mass mobilization look like?

So far the Russian government has insisted that it is carrying out “special military operations” in Ukraine.

The use of the words “war” and “invasion” to refer to military action in Ukraine is practically prohibited.

‘Declaration of war possible on Victory Day’

Amid speculation about a change in terms, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace told LBC Radio, “I think he’s going to change from the position of… ‘special operations’… He’s set it up, laid the groundwork for being able to say, ‘Look, it’s a war against the Nazis now… I need more Russian soldiers’. ..”.

“I wouldn’t be surprised… if he might have declared it on Victory Day that, ‘We are now at war with the Nazi world.'”

United States of America: great irony

In the U.S., officials also delivered similar assessments.

State Department spokesman Ned Price this week said it would be a grave irony if Moscow used a “Victory Day” event to declare war – which would allow it to deploy conscription which at this stage is not possible.

CNN citing sources as saying Putin may use Victory Day as an opportunity to state his achievements in Ukraine or declare an escalation of military action, or both.

However, it is reported that the most likely scenario is a declaration of war.
