November 8 General Election Guide – NBC4 New York

NEW YORK – The general election is next November 8 and in New York voters will choose for the House of Representatives, the Senate, the State Assembly, the Supreme Court of the state, the governor, the lieutenant governor, the attorney general and other positions state.

In New York, the primaries were divided into two dates: June 28 and August 23.

Here we want to provide you with a guide on everything you need to know for the upcoming elections.

KEY APPOINTMENTS

  • October 14: Deadline for registering voters for general elections.
  • 24 October: last day for the electoral council to receive the absentee vote request by letter, fax or via the absentee vote request portal.
  • From 29 October to 6 November: early voting period.
  • November 7: Deadline for in-person voting by email for general elections.
  • November 8: general elections.
    • Last day to stamp the vote.
  • November 15: Deadline for receipt of ballot papers sent promptly by post to local electoral commissions.
  • November 21: Military voter ballots must be received by this day.

WHEN ARE THE GENERAL ELECTIONS AND WHAT TIMES DO THE BOOKS OPEN?

The general elections will be held on November 8 and the polls are open from 6:00 to 21:00

UNTIL WHEN CAN I SIGN UP TO VOTE?

New York residents have until October 14 to register to vote and participate in the general election on Tuesday, November 8.

WHO CAN VOTE?

To register in New York you must be:

  • A citizen of the United States.
  • Be 18 (you can pre-enroll at 16 or 17, but you can’t vote until 18).
  • A resident of this state and county, city or town for at least 30 days prior to the election.
  • A person who is not serving a prison sentence as a result of a conviction for any criminal offense that is punishable under the laws of this or another state or the United States.
  • Don’t be judged mentally incompetent by a court of law.
  • Do not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

WHAT ARE THE WAYS TO VOTE?

  1. At the local polling station on election day:

Registered voters can vote in person at their polling station from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm on election day, November 8th.

2. Advance voting in person:

Early voting takes place from From 29 October to 6 November.

  • Request your absentee vote online or by post by October 24, 2022.
  • Request an absentee vote in person by November 7, 2022.
  • Return the absentee card by November 8, 2022.

DO I NEED IDENTIFICATION TO VOTE?

New Yorkers who are already registered do not need to show identification to vote unless they have included it in their registration.

However, new voters will need to show proof of identity when registering. If you have not provided your ID by election day, you can vote by sworn ballot.

WHICH IDENTIFICATIONS ARE VALID?

  • Driver’s license
  • Non-driver ID
  • Last four digits of your social security number

If you did not provide a driver’s license or social security number when registering, you can attach a copy of any of the following documents to your absentee voting application:

  • Valid identity document with photo
  • Current bill
  • Bank account balance
  • Government check or paycheck
  • Government document showing your name and address

WHICH COMPETITIONS ARE AT PLAY IN THESE ELECTIONS?

  • United States Senate: Joe pinone (R); Acting Senator Chuck Schumer (D)
  • United States House of Representatives: 26 places. New York has lost a seat in Congress, as determined by the population decline in the 2020 census.
  • Governor: Governor-in-Office Kathy Hochul (R), Rep. Lee Zeldin (R)
  • State Senate: all 63 places.
  • State Assembly: all 150 seats.

HOW DO I REPORT IF I HAVE A PROBLEM DURING THE VOTE?

The hotline will be available to resolve issues facing voters. Voters experiencing issues can notify the district attorney’s office by calling the new hotline number at (866) 390-2992, file complaints on line or by emailing [email protected].
