Sky Phenomenon November 2023: Meteor Rain

In addition to the Moon phenomenon, according to the site Southern Sky, there are several meteor shower phenomena that occur this November. The following is the meteor shower phenomenon in November 2023 and the estimated time it will occur:

11-12 November 2023: North Taurid Meteor ShowerThe North Taurid meteor shower also appears to come from the constellation Taurus and starts from October 13 to December 2 2023 with a peak on November 12 2023. On peak night, the North Taurid Meteor Shower will decorate the sky with 5 meteors per hour at a speed of 29 km/hour .

The Taurus constellation rises after sunset at 18.26 WIB and can be observed until dawn. Meanwhile, the Moon is in the New Moon phase and will not have an impact on observing this meteor shower.

The combination of the North and South Taurid meteor showers which are still ongoing at the end of October and early November is an interesting attraction in the sky. Especially with the presence of fireball.

17-18 November 2023: Leonid Meteor ShowerThe Leonid meteor shower takes place from November 3-December 2. The maximum intensity will occur on November 17-18 2023. Observers can enjoy 15 meteors per hour traveling at a speed of 71 km/sec.

The Leonid meteor shower, which originates from the remaining dust from the comet Tempel-Tuttle, will appear to come from the direction of the constellation Leo. Observers on Earth will only be able to witness 100 Leonid meteors per hour when this comet returns in 2031 and 2064. And there could be a Leonid meteor storm in 2099.

For meteor hunters, the new Leo constellation will rise at midnight at 00.20 WIB. The moon has already set when Leonid rises so observers only need to look for a location that is free of light pollution.

November 21, 2023: Alpha-Monocerotid Meteor ShowerThe Alpha-Monocerotid meteor shower takes place from November 15-25 and reaches its peak on November 21 2023. This meteor shower, which appears to emerge from the Canis Minor constellation, has a varying hourly meteor rate when it reaches its maximum. Even so, observers can observe at least 5 meteors per hour during peak meteor shower nights.

The Alpha-Monocerotid meteor shower originates from the debris of comet C/1917 F1 (Mellish) and can be observed starting at 21.36 WIB when the constellation Canis Minor rises until dawn. The Early Bandi month sets at midnight and the best time to hunt for meteors can be done when the Canis Minor constellation is at an altitude of 30º starting at midnight.
