Novak Djokovic gained a full dose of self-confidence before the ATP Finals in Turin: The Serb clearly won 6:4, 6:3 after 1:38 hours in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy Grigor Dimitrov and increased his record of won ATP Masters 1000 tournaments to an incredible 40. He clearly leads this record list ahead of Rafael Nadal (36) and Roger Federer (28).
With his seventh success in Paris-Bercy, the indoor hard court tournament in the Accor Arena is also the most successful Masters event for the 23-time Grand Slam champion from Belgrade. This year’s Australian, French and US Open champion has won no other 1000 event as often as the tournament in the French capital. “Nole” has won six times each in Miami and Rome, and five titles have so far been won in Indian Wells.
Djokovic has been unbeaten since Wimbledon
Djokovic will arrive at the ATP Finals with 18 consecutive wins. The 36-year-old has not lost a match since his Wimbledon final defeat against Carlos Alcaraz, although he “only” appeared at the tournaments in Cincinnati, the US Open and now in Paris-Bercy.
Dimitrov, on the other hand, has to wait for his first Masters 1000 title since 2017 in Cincinnati. It would have been only the second triumph at an event of this magnitude that the Bulgarian could have claimed. With the 510 points earned, the Southeast European improved three positions in the men’s world rankings to 14th place.
