Novak Djokovic Tops World Tennis Rankings as American Ben Shelton Achieves Career-Best Ranking

Madrid, Oct 23 (EFE).- Without needing to jump onto the court, while preparing for the last tournaments of the season, the Serbian Novak Djokovic reigns ahead of the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz in the world tennis rankings, in which the American Taylor Fritz displaces the German Alexander Zverev from ninth position this week, although the most significant movements are recorded further down the list.

The winner this Sunday of the Tokyo tournament, the American Ben Shelton, is already fifteenth, his best ranking ever. He climbs four steps compared to the previous week thanks to the first ATP title of his career, which he achieved as soon as he turned 21.

His compatriot Marcos Giron, semi-finalist in Tokyo, experiences an improvement of 22 positions and is in 57th.

The other winner of the weekend, Frenchman Gael Monfils, returns to the top-100 on the list thanks to his victory in Stockholm. At 37 years old, twelve years after having won on the same stage, Monfils suddenly climbed 51 places, to 89th.

He is the fourth player aged 37 or older to win an ATP title since 1990, after the Swiss Roger Federer, the Croatian Ivo Karlovic and the Spanish Feliciano López.
