OBERHOF. Sturla Holm Lägreid skulle växla till Tarjei Bö.

But he wasn’t there.

– I was quite shocked, says Läreid.

Norway was in the lead in the relay in Oberhof. Sturla Holm Lägreid had made it through the second stretch when he was about to switch to teammate Tarjei Bö.

But it didn’t go smoothly.

When Läreid arrived at the switch it was empty. Tarjei Bö was still standing on the side fixing the skis.

– No! He’s not there!, exclaimed Björn Ferry in SVT.

“Junior Mistakes”

Bö quickly learned what had happened and set off at breakneck speed. But Norway lost a few seconds.

– It’s a junior mistake, something that he, who has been with us for so long, should be able to handle, says Lägreid, who doesn’t know what went wrong for Bö.

How shocked were you?

– I was quite shocked. What to do? It becomes like checkmate.

Despite the miss, Norway won the relay by a good margin. Germany was second and Italy took third place. Sweden finished fourth after Sebastian Samuelsson collapsed in the last shot.
