Norway’s new bestseller: – Strange that a new car can lack something so important

It took time, but now the deliveries of Tesla’s new bestseller, Model Y, are finally well underway. The response has been good, ever since Tesla opened for orders.

We are probably talking here about one of Norway’s best-selling cars in 2021 – even though it came as late as mid-August. Yes, maybe it will also be THE best-selling.

Model Y is built on the same platform as little brother Model 3. Much of the design is also very similar. But the Y is an SUV – and has a number of practical advantages that the Model 3 lacks.

We have tested the newcomer and found, among other things, three things we appreciate extra – and three things we do not like.

What it is, you can see in the video at the top of this article.

Car giant bought Model X – at an overpriced price.

Raw crack

Model Y has a starting price of 535,000 kroner for the Long Range edition, with a range of 507 kilometers. Soon after the New Year, a Performance edition will also be released. Here the prices start at 589,000 kroner.

Model Y Performance is raw – and does 0-100 km / h in 3.7 seconds. At the same time, the range is somewhat lower – it manages 480 kilometers.

Both models are well equipped, and it is mainly color, rims, towing hitch and autopilot that come in addition.

In a very short time, more than 1,300 copies of the Tesla Model Y have been delivered to Norwegian customers.

Seven seats

Eventually, it will also be possible to get Model Y as a seven-seater. But so far, Tesla Norway can not say anything about when this will be available to Norwegian customers.

All cars now delivered are manufactured at the factory in China and shipped to Europe. The plan was actually that Tesla’s Giga Factory in Berling in Germany would be operational now. But it is still not finished.

However, there is no doubt that Tesla has kept a good share of China’s production for delivery in Norway and Europe. And those who order a car now, only have to wait for four or six weeks, before they get it delivered.

Good to drive

We think Model Y delivers a nice mix of comfort and sporty driving characteristics. The Long Range version does 0-100 km / h in 5 seconds, and feels very nimble.

The big difference for those who drive Model X and Model S, is of course that Y is not available with air suspension. It does something with comfort.

But the rear seat space is impressively good, the large tailgate makes loading easier and more convenient than the Model 3 – and four-wheel drive is standard. What is not good is that there is a lack of opportunities for securing luggage.

– It is simply strange that it is missing in a new car, Broom-Vegard believes. See more about this in the video above.
