North Korean missile lands near South Korea / Day

One of the North Korean missiles fell into the sea 57 kilometers from the South Korean coastal city of Sokcho, south of the maritime border between the two countries, which North Korea does not officially recognize, according to Reuters.

North Korea launched 23 missiles into the sea both east and west of the peninsula before 9am on Wednesday. It was the first time since the division of the peninsula in 1945 that a North Korean ballistic missile landed near South Korean territorial waters. And that’s the largest number of missiles launched by North Korea in one day. The South Korean military also said that North Korea fired more than 100 artillery shells simultaneously in the military buffer zone on the east coast established by the military agreement between the two countries.

South Korea has issued an air threat warning on Ullindo Island and has launched three air-to-surface missiles from its planes into the northward sea.

Nuclear-armed North Korea has tested a record number of missiles this year. Officials from Seoul and Washington have warned that North Korea has completed technical preparations to also conduct a nuclear test for the first time since 2017.
