North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un to Meet with Russian President Putin for Arms Negotiations

The White House announced Monday that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un intends to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Russia as part of the ongoing “arms negotiations” between the two countries with the aim of supplying Moscow with North Korean weapons.

A spokeswoman for the US National Security Council, Adrienne Watson, said, “As we have previously warned publicly, arms negotiations between Russia and the DPRK are advancing rapidly (…) and we have information that Kim Jong-un expects these talks to continue to include Diplomatic dialogue in Russia at the level of leaders.

The New York Times, citing US and allied sources, reported on Monday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un plans to travel to Russia this September.

The sources said that Kim Un will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the possibility of supplying weapons in the war in Ukraine.

The newspaper said Kim will travel from Pyongyang, likely by armored train, to Vladivostok on Russia’s Pacific coast, where he will meet Putin.

Newspaper: Putin meets North Korean leader in Russia this month

The New York Times, citing US and allied sources, reported on Monday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un plans to travel to Russia this September.

The officials said Putin wants Kim to agree to send artillery and anti-tank missiles to Russia, and that Kim wants Russia to provide North Korea with advanced technology for satellites and nuclear-powered submarines. Kim is also seeking food aid for his impoverished nation.

The two leaders will be on the campus of Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok to attend the Eastern Economic Forum, scheduled for Sept. 10-13, according to the officials.
