Normalization: Israel is discussing with the UAE and Jordan the “water for electricity” initiative

Yesterday, the Emirati capital witnessed a meeting that included officials from the UAE, Jordan and Israel to discuss cooperation between the three countries with regard to the provision of desalinated water and electricity that is not harmful to the environment.

The Israeli side in the meetings, which also witnessed US participation, was represented by the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Israel Katz, and Yossi Shelly, Director General of the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office.

The meeting discussed the progress made with regard to implementing the water-for-electricity initiative, which includes selling Israel 200 million cubic meters of desalinated water annually to Jordan and purchasing green electricity from an Emirati solar plant that will be established in Jordan.

According to a statement issued by the Israeli Ministry of Energy, the meeting focused on completing the details of a comprehensive agreement that will be signed at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai at the end of this year.
