Thodupuzha: It is assumed that neither the council, nor the standing health committee nor the steering committee were aware of the choice of movie star Asif Ali as the municipality’s cleanliness ambassador. Asif Ali, also a native of Thodupuzha, was chosen as the ambassador of the cleaning activities carried out in the municipality under the guidance of the Sanitation Mission. A poster with a photo of him was also released. However, the chairman of the standing health committee also became aware of this poster.

Abdul Karim, chairman of the standing health committee, raised the issue at the board meeting held on Saturday. The opposition protested that officials were making important decisions without the knowledge of the council or steering committee. It was therefore decided to freeze the decision. There has been criticism that Asif Ali also did not know he was chosen as an ambassador. However, municipal authorities informed that Asif Ali had agreed to be appointed ambassador. Some opposition members also said officials made the decision without the vice president’s knowledge.

Asif Ali’s photo was removed from the banner at the Swachh Amrit Mahotsav rally held on Saturday afternoon. Municipal President Sanish George informed that the matter will be discussed as a separate agenda at the next council meeting and a decision will be made.
