No way home and the story of unnecessary spoilers / Society

First of all, this note does not contain spoilers about Spider-Man: No Way Home.

These days a meme has gone viral on social media. Two people travel, one looks out the window towards a mountain, distraught. The other, sitting across the aisle, enjoys the open landscape. The text of the meme indicates that the former hates saboteurs and the latter doesn’t care about them.

This comes from the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film of the moment, which may become the highest grossing in recent years (377,488 tickets sold between the previous performances on Wednesday night and Thursday in Argentina). It is already in the Top Ten of this pandemic 2021.

Is that the question that fans have been asking for more or less a year is whether in addition to the Peter Parker incarnated by Tom holland, those who preceded him appear on the screen, Tobey Maguire Y Andrew Garfield.

As in one of the trailers you can see, some more, others less, five of the villains with whom Spider-Man fought when he was wearing another suit and Parker had another face, the rumor that there would be a 3 × 1 spread quickly.

Marketing?

Isn’t it a marketing measure, so that all fans hit theaters the first weekend, before friends (would be enemies) tell you what they want to discover for their own eyes?

Think about Avengers Endgame: is face to face with Avatar The fights that are the highest grossing in history, and all or a good part of their success lies not only in the end (did it end?) Of the Avengers saga, but in knowing who died and who did not.

I was especially careful not to spoil anything at all. In the review posted Thursday Spider-Man: No Way HomeI analyze how Marvel movies are already like episodes of a series rather than independent productions of each other.

And I don’t count if there is more than one Peter Parker in the multiverse.

How to avoid spoiling a review? Simple: do precisely a criticism and not a chronicle.

I know fans, people who for months, when they enter their social networks, every time they see something about Spider-Man, they look the other way. Others bought the ticket directly in advance to see the film in which Benedict Cumberbatch and Zendaya also star and they no longer went directly to Twitter.

When I saw the movie, I can go to Instagram and Twitter and see how, without warning, fans / viewers reveal whether or not there is more than one Peter Parker.

It would be material for analysis to know why someone likes to reveal something important about a plot to the rest of humanity, or spoil the pleasure of discovering it for themselves.

If we review the last great “secrets” of the films, those spoilers that should not be revealed, we can move on from whether or not James Bond is a father in No time to die and, incidentally, if he dies or not. Before Avengers Endgame many wondered if Tony Stark / Iron Man, that is, the character of Robert Downey Jr., died. And if someone else died.

Later in time, of course, the end of Sixth Sense made many to get their tickets again and go to the movies to realize how they had not realized …

But when can you start talking about the end of a movie? I think never. Is there a date, a few years, so we can joke about the fate of some character? At this point, is it a spoiler to say that Rose has no place at the table for Jack in Titanic?

One day we could do a survey of the most famous spoilers, in addition to the ones we already filmed around here, but I will save this anecdote for last.

The usual suspects. One of the five was Keyser Söze. Why tell it? Photo Clarín Archive

Released The usual suspects, in August 1996, and the central question of Bryan Singer’s thriller was the identity of Keyser Söze. At the Capitol Cinema, on 1800 Santa Fe Avenue, there was the movie poster with Benicio del Toro, Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey, Kevin Pollack and Stephen Baldwin, in the recognition line.

One of the five criminals was Keyser Söze, but those who had not seen the film did not know. And a hdp had rounded, marked with a black marker, the actor’s head, which was Keyser Söze.

That is really a spoiler even for the forewarned.
