As you know, the central processor and the Xbox Series X GPU work with constant frequencies, but the PlayStation 5 implements variable frequencies. At the same time, the performance of the PS5 is 10.28 teraflops, and the performance of the Xbox Series X is 13 teraflops.

One of the leading developers of the Xbox Series X, Jason Roland, in a conversation with the Xataka publication, explained why Microsoft does not use the variable frequency approach. According to Jason, this will not affect the development of games in the best way and will add a headache to the creators. At the same time, Microsoft is not chasing record performance indicators.

“We focus on optimizing the development process so that players get the best projects, rather than trying to“ hunt ”for record numbers. We always talked about stable and steady performance. We could increase frequencies, we could use variable frequencies. However, the reality is that it would be more difficult for developers to optimize games, even if they could boast higher teraflops. It does not matter. The games that developers can create are important, ”said Roland.

Roland also commented on the operation of the data input / output system on the Xbox Series X console, which according to information from the network is not as effective as on the PS5. Roland noted that it’s not worth it to reduce everything to numbers, and the Xbox Series X has technologies such as Direct Storage, which “provides low-level access to the NVMe controller, which increases the efficiency of data I / O.”
