no postponement of the start of the school year

The Minister of National Education, Saaid Amzazi affirmed Wednesday that the next school year in Morocco will take place on September 7 and no postponement is planned given the unforeseeable evolution of the epidemiological situation linked to COVID-19 .

The minister, who was speaking in a parliamentary committee, spoke of the negative repercussions of a decision to postpone the start of the school year on the students.

“We have a possibility of adaptation according to the situation in all regions as the provincial directors and academies are mobilized for all scenarios”, he assured, noting that the educational models prepared take into account the evolution of the pandemic.

According to him, a possible resurgence of the epidemic would imply the generalization of distance learning while an improvement of the situation should result in a return to face-to-face teaching.

Today, the priority is to ensure a timely start to school, university and work, while involving families in decision-making. Such an approach does not mean in any way a breach of responsibilities, but it is a matter of facing the epidemic collectively with a sense of responsibility, he observed.

The government official recalled that three models have been prepared in anticipation of the 2020-2021 school year. The first model provides for the adoption of face-to-face education in the event of a normal epidemiological situation, while the second concerns self-education in the event of a worrying development of the pandemic. The third scenario concerns the alternation between the first two models, said the minister.
