Chair of the Covid-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Policy Committee Airlangga Hartarto stated as of today, Tuesday (7/21), Government Spokesperson for handling Covid-19 no longer held by Achmad Yurianto.
“Later there will be an addition, the government spokesman here is appointed by Prof. Wiku (Wiku Adisasmito) from BNPB,” Airlangga said when holding a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (7/21).
Airlangga said there would be another spokesperson who specifically discussed economic issues. The position will be held by Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
“Pak Budi Gunadi Sadikin is specifically for the economic task force,” he said.
To CNNIndonesia.comYurianto confirmed Airlangga’s statement question the change of position he has held since the first Covid-19 case appeared in Indonesia, early last March.
“Everything is in accordance with what was announced by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy,” said Yuri.
He also said he would no longer announce the development of Covid-19 daily. “Later, Prof. Wiku will be announced,” Yuri said.
Achmad Yurianto has been appointed as a spokesman for the government since Covid’s first case appeared in Indonesia. Yuri never broke up delivering information about Covid-19 every day through streaming, radio channels, and television.
Yuri’s task was replaced after President Joko Widodo issued Presidential Regulation No. 82 of 2020 concerning the Corona Virus Disease Handling Committee (Covid-19) and the National Economic Recovery signed by President Joko Widodo on Monday (7/20) yesterday.
The regulation stipulates the dissolution of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling Covid-19 and the establishment of the 2019 Corruption Virus Handling Committee (Covid-19) and the National Economic Recovery. The committee was chaired by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartanto.
In addition the Presidential Regulation also regulates the formation of the Covid-19 Handling Task Force. According to the Perpres, this Task Force is still under the command of Doni as the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
