No Liberation Day and King’s Day due to new government measures NOW

The cabinet has banned all meetings, gatherings and events until June 1 Monday evening. Fines will be issued for violations. The measure has major consequences for the art and culture sector.

Events on and around Liberation Day and King’s Day will not take place. A number of festivals such as Lentekabinet, metal convention Roadburn, dance festival DGTL and the Rotterdam event Motel Mozaique cannot be organized under the new measures.

The Festival Paaspop, which would take place from April 10 to 12 in Schijndel in Brabant, is also canceled. Various Brabant media, including the Brabants Dagblad, previously wrote that the construction of the festival site has been silent since tougher measures were announced regarding the COVID-19 virus. These measures were in force until at least April 6 and now even until June 1, while Paaspop would start on April 10.

The music festival had names like Anouk, Krezip and Sean Paul on the poster. Last year, Paaspop attracted a record number of visitors of 90,000 over three days. A year earlier, 81,000 people visited the festival.

People who have a ticket can use this ticket for the 2021 edition. But the organization also offers to return the money.

Cinemas and theaters closed

Premiere dates for films and stage performances will be further shifted, as theaters and cinemas also remain closed until June 1. The measure will therefore also have major consequences for the film industry, which usually uses the summer to launch the blockbusters.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezes and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Nearly all deaths involve the elderly or other frail, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
