No improvement on the student precariousness front

GALERE – Whatever its form, precariousness affects a large number of Lille students. Overwhelmed by solicitations, the Group of student associations Galillé launches a call for help

Students are a category of the French population which is far from being spared by the question of precariousness. In Lille as elsewhere, the health crisis did not improve things, on the contrary. To meet the growing demand for help from young people in difficulty, student associations took the initiative of actions to supplement the mechanisms put in place by the institutions. But quickly, they were overwhelmed.

Sometime ago, 20 Minutes relayed the emergency accommodation system for students called “Le tiot accueil”, launched by Galillé, the Group of student associations in Lille. The idea was to put students in difficulty in finding accommodation in contact with individuals ready to welcome them free of charge, while a lasting solution was offered to them. An equivalent device was launched in Angers a year ago and, despite the smaller size of the student community, the organizers were quickly inundated with requests.
