No chaos at Leipzig Central Station

The messages that were announced on Sunday over the loudspeakers of Leipzig Central Station are similar: “Unfortunately this train is canceled”. Quite a few travelers try to find out on which routes the bikes have not come to a complete stop. The situation remains relatively calm, although queues form at the service point every now and then. There is no great chaos.

“Desolate information management”, an older man who is stranded in Leipzig gets upset at the service point. “Today we can’t go to Leipzig at all” – he received this information from a train driver in Borsdorf on Sunday morning. Five minutes later the train from Wurzen had come. Now he wants to know when his train is going to Binz? “This is indicated on the platform.” But nobody could tell him. “They have to know whether the train left Munich,” the 71-year-old is annoyed and hopes that he will be able to travel to the Baltic Sea sometime this Sunday.

Sabine Flachsmann (60), who traveled from Dresden to Leipzig on Sunday morning, is on her way to Lindau on Lake Constance. Her ICE was down, but the earlier regional express ran. Now she has to be patient, has been waiting for a few hours. “But hope dies last,” she says and complains that the lady at the information desk was very unfriendly. “The staff at the travel center are all friendly.” She certainly understands the situation, even though she has already experienced much tougher winters.

However, “weather-related disruptions in operations”, as it is called on various display boards, are noticeable everywhere. “We try to help wherever possible,” says Sven Klaus from the Deutsche Bahn service team, which is out and about on the platforms. But nobody can “conjure up” trains. Nothing at all reaches Leipzig from the north this Sunday afternoon. Other long-distance trains from the south end in Eisenach. Abellio Rail Central Germany temporarily stopped its train service on Sunday morning due to heavy snowfall and drifting snow. Therefore nothing drove from Leipzig in the direction of Weimar-Erfurt-Eisenach. Isolated regional trains or S-Bahn trains in different directions are on the way. “I urgently have to go to Frankfurt / Main by Monday morning,” says a desperate woman who didn’t know what to do next. For “stranded” passengers, Deutsche Bahn then also provided a train stop in Leipzig.

Stranded travelers want to know when the next train is leaving at the main train station. But the employees of the service teams are also often at a loss.

The station mission and the city help the homeless

The station mission is also very busy. “But fewer travelers come to us, there isn’t so much going on at the train station at the moment,” says Tabea Trabalski. Passengers with a handicap then also need less help with transfers. “But many people in need come to us on Sunday. When it’s cold, they need gloves, a warm drink, something to eat. ”This is passed through the window, the rooms are currently not accessible due to the corona.
