The CGT Energie Corse met this Thursday in front of the EDF premises in Ajaccio. The object was to demonstrate on the sidelines of an extraordinary Social and Economic Council which was to deal with the cessation of activity of the Bastia gas concession leading to the dismissal of nearly 83 employees according to the union. However, in the meantime, this CSE has been canceled.
“We have put in place a balance of power for a few weeks in order to avoid this cessation with in particular threats of cuts, explained Xavier Nasa, CGT secretary general. A steering committee met yesterday in Bastia between the four stakeholders: the Engie group, the management of EDF, the municipality and the prefecture. A number of provisions were endorsed there. The town hall of Bastia in particular undertook to open the call for tenders, thus, the CSE was canceled and the cessation of activity also ”.
Another reason for the demonstration today, the Corsican union is rallying to the national movement led against the project called “Hercules”.
“This project aims to privatize the company, continues the union representative. It plans to separate it into three distinct branches, one which should bring together the nuclear production pole, another concerning hydroelectric production, and finally a last part in the form of a holding company whose capital would be opened initially at 25% which would regroup the trade branch, the subsidiaries and the Insular Energy Systems Department (DSEI) of which Corsica is part ”.
