NL-Alert: cooking drinking water in Southeast Brabant

The E. coli bacterium has been found in the drinking water of a number of villages in Southeast Brabant. Brabant Water sent an NL-Alert around 4 pm. Residents of the villages of Hooge Mierde, Lage Mierde, Hapert, Hulsel, Reusel and Bladel are advised to boil tap water for three minutes before drinking it, reports Broadcasting Brabant. After boiling, the water is safe to drink.

The pipes are also rinsed clean. This prevents brown water from coming out of the tap temporarily and/or the water pressure is slightly less, the Brabant drinking water company says.

Poep bacterium

Escherichia coli or E. coli is a group of bacteria that is naturally present in the intestines of humans and animals. In the large intestine, the E. coli can be useful because it prevents the growth of harmful bacteria. But there are, according to Nutrition center also some types that can cause a food infection. Popularly, (that) E. coli is also called the poop bacterium.

The water company in Brabant expects the problems in the southeast of Brabant to be over in the course of tomorrow afternoon. Until then, the advice is to boil the water first. It is still unclear how the bacteria ended up in the water.
