Nketiah Two Goals, The Gunners Win 2-1

London

Arsenal keep their position in the top four zone after beating Leeds United 2-1 in match 35 Premier League. Two quick goals Eddie Nketiah in this match ensured the Gunners won three points.

Playing at the Emirates on Sunday (8/5/2022), Arsenal immediately took a two-goal lead in the first 10 minutes through Nketiah, in the 5th and 10th minutes respectively. The game seemed to be in the hands of the Gunners when Luke Ayling got a red card in 27th minute.

But Leeds tried to get up and managed to score a goal in the second half through Diego Llorente’s kick in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, it was not enough to prevent the Whites from losing.

These results make Arsenal firmly in fourth place standings with 66 points. While Leeds is in 18th position with 34 points, and is still threatened with relegation.

The course of the match

The hosts had opened the scoring in the 5th minute. Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier’s error in controlling the backpass resulted in Nketiah’s possession of the ball, who immediately shot the ball into an empty net.

The advantage was increased in the 10th minute. Gabriel Martinelli cut-inside from the left then fed Nketiah, who in a free position fired a low shot into the right corner of the Leeds goal, beating Meslier for the second time.

Arsenal continued to press Leeds. In the 24th minute, Bukayo Saka was standing free in the penalty box when he received Martin Odegaard’s pass in the penalty area, but his left foot shot was blocked by Meslier.

Disastrous for Leeds added in the 27th minute. Luke Ayling was given a red card after a two-footed tackle on Martinelli. The decision was strongly protested by Raphinha, which actually resulted in a yellow card for the Brazilian winger.

Superior in the number of players, Arsenal’s attacks are getting crazier. Martinelli opened fire in the 38th minute, but was pushed over by Meslier. Odegaard’s long-range strike in the 39th minute and Granit Xhaka in the 40th minute were also able to be secured by the French goalkeeper.

In the second half, Arsenal’s dominance remained unchanged. Leeds goal continued to be bombarded, but no goals were produced. Gabriel Magalhaes’ left-footed shot in the 51st minute was caught by Meslier, while Martinelli’s chance in the 55th minute was also denied by the 22-year-old goalkeeper.

Martinelli also got another golden opportunity in the 60th minute, when he only had to deal with Meslier. But his shot deviated from the right side of the goal.

Leeds, who could not do much since the start of the game, actually got up in the 66th minute. Their first shot in this match immediately resulted in a goal.

Junior Firpo deflected a corner with a header that led to Diego Llorente. The Spanish defender stood free on the right and immediately completed the opportunity with a shot that Aaron Ramsdale failed to anticipate.

Arsenal immediately re-press. They do not want to give momentum to Leeds. Odegaard almost scored in the 75th minute, but the Norwegian midfielder’s left-footed shot narrowly missed the right.

In the remaining matches, no more goals were created. Arsenal could not add to the lead, but Leeds couldn’t find a second goal either. The game closed with a score of 2-1.
