Nitish Kumar Elected as President of Janata Dal United (JDU) Amid Reports of Party Re-Alignment

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been elected as the President of Janata Dal United (JDU). Nitish Kumar was elected unanimously after the resignation of National President Lalan Singh. Reports are coming out that Lalan Singh was replaced because he was more interested in RJD, the JD(U) ally.

The decision was taken at the national executive meeting held in Delhi. Union Minister Giriraj Singh had revealed that Lalu Yadav had told him that JDU would merge with RJD. Lalu Yadav’s son and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav denied this.

At the same time, it is reported that Nitish’s move is to re-align with the BJP and as part of that, he is taking control of the party. However, JD(U) General Secretary Dhananjay Singh said that Nitish wanted to be the prime ministerial candidate of the opposition ‘India’ coalition and that is why he was made the party president.
