Ninth-Grade Exam Results: Foreign Language Outperforms Mathematics

Namely, the average score of students in English reaches 67%, in Latvian 58%, and in mathematics the average score of students is 51%.

Representative of the National Educational Content Center Liene Bērziņa: “Mathematics exam is the exam in which the most students failed to reach the 10% threshold set this year, in total we are talking about 826 students whose result is between 0 and 9%, while 17,274 students have obtained a result above 10% marks. Centralized assessment has helped to show the objective situation as it is, what is the knowledge of 9th grade students at the end of this learning stage.”

Due to technical reasons, access to exam results was delayed even for several days. This created a series of problems for both students and educational institutions, as in many places the enrollment of students in the 10th grade had to be extended.
