Nintendo won’t confirm any new hardware this year, according to analysis

The Nintendo Switch turned five years old this spring and despite, at times, persistent rumors has a “Switch Pro” never materialized. Presumably, both us and Nintendo have rather their sights set on the possible sequel, and Nintendo have been open that they are worried about the shift from Switch.

But that won’t happen in the near future. In connection with Nintendo committing quarterly report and stating 111 million Switch sold (but slower sales, explained by component shortage), an analysis from Nikkei (via VGC). According to their survey, Nintendo will “not confirming any new hardware this year”. They have analyzed the quarterly report and believe that Nintendo is more focused on reaching sales targets than putting effort into new hardware.

Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo’s CEO, suggests to the publication that it’s a difficult enough goal.

Normally, we stockpile inventory in the summer to prepare for the year-end sales season, which is at its peak. This summer, we are not able to produce as many as usual.

The goal is 21 million sold during the fiscal year, and after the first quarter, there are approximately 17.5 million left. Earlier this year, Nintendo also said that the Switch is only middle-aged, and thus has many years left. It definitely testifies (also) that “Switch 2” is a long way off.
