Nîmes: The Capital of Urban Cultures for 10 Days – Tout Simply Hip-Hop Festival Celebrates Southern Rap

Nîmes becomes the capital of urban cultures for 10 days. Proposed by the Da Storm association, Tout simply hip-hop returns for its 17th edition from October 19 to 29 and focuses on rap “made in” the South.

With well-known artists like Marseillais Jul, Soprano or the group IAM, the South appears to be fertile ground for rap. For the 17th edition of its “Simply hip-hop” festival, the Nîmes association Da Storm wants to emphasize the attachment of Southerners to urban cultures. A little Mediterranean air will therefore blow over the event which runs from October 19 to October 29. And if rap is today the most listened to musical style in France, it still suffers from preconceived ideas. Showing its diversity, without cliché, is also Da Storm’s other objective.

Also on the program: graffiti workshops and rap showcases. An event in partnership with the City.

On the Vauban website

The Nîmes festival also gives food for thought on rap culture by offering conferences. Hosted by journalist Raphael Da Cruz (who works for the radio on Movement I’m the magazine the ABCDR of sound), one of them has the theme “Rap from the South of France”. If today it is impossible to deny the role and place of Marseille, what about the other territories of the South?

This is the question that the journalist will try to answer. From Montpellier, via Nice, Perpignan and even Nîmes, the objective will be to scan the different rap scenes in the south of France.
Thursday October 26 at 6:30 p.m. Vauban site. Free.
