The contract binding the company Edeis to Agglo Nîmoise for the management of the airport has been extended by one year.

Under the acronym “DSP”, we find a public service delegation. This is a contract binding a private company to a community for the management of a public service. For seven years, Nîmes airport has been managed by Edeis. On behalf of Agglo, the company approaches the airlines with the aim of creating new routes. It also manages the maintenance of the runway and takes care of the refueling of all the actors of the airport.

Only since March, the health crisis has nailed planes to the ground. In Nîmes-Garons, if Ryanair has taken over two out of four lines (Belgium and Morocco), air traffic is still uncertain. ” We could not restart a DSP under such conditions. The candidate companies would have been unable to give us real, tangible and serious offers in view of the catastrophic air situation. “, We explain on the side of Nîmes metropolis. This is the second extension after the one, in 2018, followed the subrogation of the airport by Nîmes Métropole.

Edeis’ contract is therefore extended for a year, hoping that by then, traffic will return to normal. In 2020, the number of passengers is expected to reach between 55,000 and 60,000 people. Each year, apart from the health crisis, between 220,000 and 240,000 people pass through Nîmes-Garons.

The new president of Nîmes Métropole, Franck Proust, says he wants to make the airport one of his three priorities. Among the development axes: the transformation of Nîmes into « hub for civil protection and risk management. “In addition to the arrival of Civil Security four years ago, Nîmes-Garons airport is a candidate to accommodate part of the storage capacity of the future European medical reserve.
