Nigerian played the final minutes of the under-23 team’s clash, in the Revelation League; he hasn’t competed since July and his departure by the end of the month is a scenario on the table
A few hours before Estoril faced FC Porto, in the round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup, one of the squad members, Dele Yusuf, was competing almost 400 kilometers from the Cascais Line emblem’s facilities. The Nigerian winger, who has not had space in Vasco Seabra’s choices, was placed in the under-23 team to maintain the pace of the game, in a practice that has been applied in the last games of the Canarians’ second team.
It is worth remembering that other elements such as the Dutch Finn Dicke and Ivan Pavlic competed in the last official matches of the Estoril under-23 team – Dicke appeared, just over a month ago, in the reception to Estrela da Amadora.
The defensive midfielder played 65 minutes and began a strategy that he continued in the following two matches, against Sporting and Benfica, with another player, namely Ivan Pavlic. The midfielder accumulated 125 minutes of use in these two matches and in the day that followed, opening the qualifying phase for champions of the Liga Revelação, against Famalicão, Yusuf was the new addition.
The formula applied to Dicke and Pavlic was, this time, applied to the Nigerian, who played the last ten minutes of the match and participated in Estoril’s turnaround in Minho, as the result was unfavorable 2-1. With goals at 87′ and 90+2′, scored by Philippe Lanquetin and Rodrigo Ramos (who had already scored the first goal), Estoril turned the score around and Dele Yusuf was able to participate again in an official game with victory.
Remember that the winger’s competitive hiatus was already long and had lasted almost half a year, given that he had only played one official game in the entire season, more specifically… in the first of all, in July. Dele Yusuf had played just one minute in the victory over Paços de Ferreira, back in July, and was not used again until this Tuesday – and his future remains undefined.
The use in Famalicão also serves to help Yusuf, regardless of what happens until the end of the month: the exit, which was considered at the close of the market, is once again on the table, and it could even be confirmed that from the moment the signing of Serbian Nemanja Jovic is unlocked. Until then, he is part of the squad and will be ready for any eventuality, and could even remain if there is a sale until the market closes – names like Rafik Guitane or João Marques will, at this point, be highly rated.
