In 2012, Nicolas Sarkozy received the Golden Fleece necklace from the King of Spain, Juan Carlos. This invaluable decoration has just been deposited in the Legion of Honor museum by the former President of the Republic. In 2012, Carla Bruni’s companion was president of the Republic and no Frenchman before him had received this distinction since his predecessor Gaston Doumergue in 1926. It was during a ceremony that the little gem made its entry into the collection of French and foreign decorations from the Legion of Honor museum.
The event brought together General Benoît Puga, Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor and former Chief of Staff to the Presidency, but also his wife, Carla, as well as several of the former collaborators of his daughter’s father. This distinction rewarded at the time, “Nicolas Sarkozy’s commitment to the fight against ETA”. And if its value is invaluable, it is also because the necklace dates from the beginning of the 19th century. Nicolas Sarkozy had been thanked for both counterterrorism cooperation and for the integration of Spain into the G20.
When Nicolas Sarkozy died, the Golden Fleece was supposed to return to Spain. It remains to be seen what will really happen at that time, in any case, this is not about to happen.
