Nicolas Cage will play tiger owner Joe Exotic in a television series. For 56-year-old Cage, it is the first TV role in his career. The series on Exotic will be eight episodes long and will be produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios, reports Variety.
The story revolves around Joe Schreibvogel, also known as Joe Exotic. Exotic is an eccentric, exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who is committed to preserving his park. The series will be about how Schreibvogel became Joe Exotic and how he lost himself and became a caricature of himself.
The makers drew inspiration for the series from a journalistic piece Texas Monthly: Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild by Leif Reigstad.
That a play series is in the making is a smart move. After Netflix’s documentary series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness on March 20, social media soon turned to almost nothing else. With much of the world required to sit at home, Netflix took advantage and the series was already viewed 34 million times in the United States within a few weeks.
