Nick de Vries has chosen “21” as the fixed car number to be used in his F1 career starting in 2023 with Scuderia AlphaTauri.
Nick de Vries, who was a reserve driver for Mercedes F1, entered from Williams as a replacement for Alexander Albon, who was suffering from appendicitis at the Italian F1 Grand Prix, and showed a performance of ninth place.
Red Bull have decided to appoint Nick de Vries as AlphaTauri driver for 2023 to replace Pierre Gasly, who wanted to move to the Alpine F1 team.
From 2014 all drivers will have to choose a race number to use throughout their F1 career. Nick de Vries chose to drive car number 21.
Esteban Gutierrez (Haas F1 Team) was the last number 21 to race in 2016. A driver’s number is protected for two years since the last F1 race.
The number 21 is not an unknown number for Nick de Vries. He is driving the F1 car for the first time in Abu Dhabi for the Mercedes F1 team in 2020 and 2021 in car number 21. By the way, at the Italian F1 GP at Williams, it was number 45, and at the Alpha Tauri Abu Dhabi test this year, wore number 41.
Teammate Yuki Tsunoda is wearing number 22 and AlphaTauri F1 will be driving two cars with the number one difference.
