Nice: parents fight to treat their little girl who suffered a stroke at birth

Laurie and Stéphane, who do not have the financial means to take care of their two-year-old daughter Morgane, disabled following a stroke, have launched an online fundraiser and decided to create an association, in order to alert public opinion and authorities on the plight of parents of children with cerebral palsy.

It is a health problem that affects a thousand children in France every year, like the little Nice girl Morgane, victim of a cerebrovascular accident (stroke) during the last months of her mother’s pregnancy.

“Our daughter was six months old when she was diagnosed,” says her mom, Laurie, 38. Even today, when we tell people that our daughter has had a stroke, they still don’t believe us because they associate this type of attack with old age. However, it can happen that it affects babies ”.

For three months, Morgane has had difficulty walking and still cannot use her right arm. To prevent her muscles from retracting, she undergoes injections and has to undergo regular rehabilitation sessions with a physiotherapist. “Social Security only reimburses 2h30 of physiotherapy sessions per week,” continues her mother. But this is not enough. We know that only intensive rehabilitation allows progress ”.

An online jackpot for Morgane

It is in Poland that Laurie and Stéphane had to go to obtain more adequate care. They have just spent a fortnight there with Morgane, who was able to benefit from 54 hours of therapy (physiological massage, verticalizer, swimming pool, etc.), which enabled her to make significant progress.

“For this to be effective, you would need to do two to three sessions per year,” explains Laurie. The problem is that it costs 3,500 to 4,000 euros each time ”.

Parents launched an online fundraiser on leetchi.com entitled “Rehabilitation for Morgane Decaux”, which has already raised 1,600 euros. It is possible to follow the progress of the little Niçoise on the Facebook page: “Le combat de Morgane”.
