Nice dematerializes birth and death declarations, a first in France

Nice is the first city to dematerialize these civil status applications. It is possible to carry out these steps from a computer or a smartphone.

It is an innovation which, like many others, has been driven by the health crisis. Since Covid-19, appointment times for declaring a birth, recognition or death have increased considerably, up to several months in the Alpes-Maritimes.

For this reason, the city of Nice has decided to implement the dematerialization of these civil status applications. A first in France, according to the press release from the town hall.

From a computer or laptop

The procedure is intended to be simple for the user who only needs access to the Internet. The town hall ensures that the elements are transmitted “in a secure and confidential manner” and “allow the civil status officers to carry out a preliminary check and to draft the civil status document”.

Concretely, a user has the possibility to proceed, from his smartphone or his computer, to the pre-declaration of birth of his child by entering on the dedicated form: the date of birth, the place of birth, the first names and surnames chosen as well as the identity of the parent(s). “The transmission of attachments is also planned in real time”, details the press release.

Soon other possible steps online

The latter is then contacted by email to choose an online appointment to come and finalize the signing of his deed and collect the copies necessary for his steps.

On his Twitter account, Anthony Borré, first deputy to the city of Nice, explains that other procedures will be possible online soon such as marriage files or change of first name.
