NHL – The family where Filip Mešár lives: Maintains extraordinary order

Brian and Cailin Daub, parents of two children, ages 28 and 25, are serving as a lineup for the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL Junior League for the 24th consecutive season. In those years, the two former masters saw many European players come and go under their roof. Two of them ended up in the NHL: Dominik Kubalík (Red Wings) and Radek Faksa (Stars).

The whole of Slovakia believes that in a few months the people of Daubov will be able to boast that they have three hockey players who have made their way up to the NHL. In recent weeks, the family has shared a home with Filip Mešár, who was drafted this year by the Montreal Canadiens in 26th place.

Slovakia and Kitchener are more than 7,000 kilometers apart. At the age of 18, Filip Mešár has to deal not only with a new team and the expectations that the hockey world has of him, but also with the city of Kitchener, which he did not know until a few months ago.

“It’s different from Slovakia and from everything else I’ve experienced in Europe. But I really like it here! The biggest difference is that Kitchener is a very small city,” said Filip Mešár in an interview for TVA Sports.

“The people of Daubo definitely make it easier for me to integrate. I can only say good things about them. I am in their house together with Carson Rehkopf and we feel very comfortable in their house. Brian and Cailin always cook us good food. They treat us very well” Be carried forward.

When Brian Daub was asked what Filip Mešár’s favorite dishes were, the friendly 50-year-old gave a pretty crazy answer. “Filip will eat anything. Like, he’s never had spaghetti squash. My wife cooked it for him once and he asked for another!”

And how does Filip Mešár behave as a guest? In terms of cleanliness, at least for now, it’s doing very well. “She makes her bed every morning and keeps her room exceptionally tidy,” Brian Daub testified with a smile on his face. “Seriously, he’s a really good guy. He likes to talk hockey and he has an amazing ability to communicate in English, which can’t be said of all European kids. He finds time to talk to us” adds former teacher Cailin.

Although Kitchener is more than 600 kilometers from Montreal, Filip Mešár continues to maintain a very close friendship with draft pick Juraj Slafkovský.

“We talk to each other after all his matches”, admits Filip Mešár. “I ask him a lot of questions about the life of a professional hockey player. I want to prepare myself and make sure I don’t get too many surprises when it’s my turn. Juraj told me he doesn’t see a big difference between the level of play in the preparation games I have played and in official matches”.
