Seattle’s NHL team receives a climate change stadium – sponsored by Jeff Bezos and Amazon

Names are one thing with the new NHL franchise in Seattle. The 32nd team of the National Hockey League was announced in December 2018 and actually wanted to announce the name of the club in spring 2019. This announcement is now almost 19 months ago and we still don’t know whether the “Seattle Kraken” will exist or not. The new team will join the NHL in the 2021/22 season.

We now know two things, however, and both concern the stadium in downtown Seattle. First: The renovation work is delayed slightly, the new opening date should be in late summer 2021. Second: The stadium is now called “Climate Pledge Arena” – climate promise arena.

The stadium is still a huge construction site.

Climate Pledge Arena? The Seattle Center Coliseum, as it was known until recently, owes its name to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. He bought the naming rights and named the stadium after the internal company-enforced program, according to which Amazon would be completely CO by 20402-operate neutrally.

The Climate Pledge Arena itself should also keep the promise it makes in the name. The operators want to use collected rainwater for the ice production. And the stadium should also be completely CO2-neutral and operated with electricity from renewable energies. (abu)

Stadiums are also being worked on elsewhere:
