It came as it had to come: The big winner of the NHL Draft Lottery is a so-called “placeholder team”, which will only be determined after qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Eight of the sixteen teams that will participate and fail in the corona-related preliminary round are involved in the raffle for the first pick. However, who is the winner among the losers must first be determined by a second drawing.
Konkret betrifft dies die Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks und Winnipeg Jets.
Half of these teams will fail in the qualifying round and could be very lucky. Every team has the same chances, the probability of the big lot in the second draw is 12.5%.
“Team E”, as the “placeholder team” was called, had a 2.5% chance of winning before the draft.

The Los Angeles Kings, on the other hand, will surely be happy to receive the second pick. “We are very excited,” said Kings-GM Luc Robitaille. “It’s always nice to hike up or down, whatever you call it. It’s an exciting moment for the LA Kings and the entire franchise.”
Ottawa gets the third pick, Detroit falls – in nominally the best chances before the draft for the big lot – in fourth place.
The draft takes place after the playoffs that have not yet been scheduled.
