“Neymar transfer: Bayern legend Paul Breitner shares a hard opinion!
The move from superstar Neymar (31) from Paris Saint-Germain to the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal has provided plenty to talk about. Paul Breitner (71), an icon of FC Bayern, has now expressed his views on the 90 million euro transfer – and his words are more than clear.
The 1974 World Champion spoke plainly about Neymar in the program “Blickpunkt Sport” on Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR): “Thank you, dear Saudis, for buying Mr Neymar, who has been one of the most left-wing footballers under the sun in recent years. One of the greatest footballers who only acts, who only marks. Lousy!” Breitner found clear words.
He continued: “A far left germ. I have to say: Thank you very much, we don’t have to take it anymore. In the past, the Brazilian has provoked controversy by trying to generate penalties through theatrics or simulate fouls with swallows.
Through such actions, Neymar has created an image that will probably accompany him permanently. But Neymar isn’t the only superstar to have found his way into the Saudi Arabian league this year. Celebrity names like Karim Benzema, former Bayern player Sadio Mané and even Cristiano Ronaldo have made similar moves.
Breitner is skeptical about these transfers: “What are they (Ronaldo, Mané and Co.) supposed to do with their money there?” He doubts the league’s lasting success.
Neymar has caused a stir lately as he is unable to play for his new club due to injury. Muscular problems prevent his quick debut at Al-Hilal. Still, Neymar is expected to join the Brazil national team. However, Al-Hilal coach Jorge Jesus sharply criticizes this decision. He bemoans Neymar is traveling to the national team despite his injury instead of concentrating on his rehabilitation.
